I loved every day of the five years that I worked in the office at Maui Ocean Center (doing PR and marketing). As a life-long lover of the ocean, I never envisioned a profession in which I would be in an office, but, as I often said, if I had to be in an office, it might as well be a few feet away from a couple dozen sharks. And right next door to Hula Cookies.
In 1999, Hula Cookies started with a vision to create amazing cookies made with local ingredients such as macadamia nuts, mangos and Kona coffee. Their retail store is located in the Maalaea Harbor Shops, across from the Pacific Whale Foundation store and check-in area. In addition to their awesome selection of fresh-baked cookies, they serve up another ‘Made on Maui’ favorite – Roselani Ice Cream. And yes- they’ll make you an ice cream cookie sandwich – for a true ‘only on Maui’ experience. Go ahead, you deserve it!
If you are having a wedding and corporate event coming up on Maui (or anywhere!), Hula Cookies can provide whatever you might need – whether its trays of cookies, small tins for your guests, or locally made hawaiian bamboo baskets.
And if you aren’t lucky enough to be on Maui, you can still do some online shipping at hulacookies.com – they’ve received orders as far as Russia, France and Germany.
Sam Ballout, part of the Hula Cookies family, also recently shared that they were recently approached by an pool of investors out of Dubai to franchise the concept in their country and possibly all over the Gulf!
Congrats on all the success to Sam and his team – and Mahalo for sharing your story with the Maui Made readers!
